Rev. Dr. Jeff Hayes
Jeff grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, before graduating Furman University with a B.A. in Religion, followed by Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Gardner-Webb School of Divinity. He has served churches in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Barnwell counties, all in South Carolina; as well as Asheville, North Carolina. Jeff has actively participated in denominational service with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and other civic boards and committees. He is married to Krista, a Spanish instructor and coach, who is originally from Lexington, Kentucky. Together they have two boys: Benjamin and Jackson. In addition to spending enormous amounts of time with his wonderful family, Jeff enjoys Furman football, Kentucky basketball, and a near-par round of golf.
Associate Minister for Music and Community Involvement
Suzanne grew up near Tabor City, NC. She accepted Christ at the age of eight and felt the Call to Ministry at eleven. Suzanne graduated early from High school to pursue a Bachelor of Music from Wingate University and her Master of Church Music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville, Ky. She has served in Baptist, Methodist and Lutheran churches in North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Kentucky. Suzanne recently was a Hospice Chaplain and Choral Conductor of the Dutch Fork Choral Society. Suzanne is married to Jim, Director of Social Services at Palmetto Health and a Hospice Social Worker. They have two children: Lawrence (Anna), who is Minister of Music at A&M UMC, College Station, TX, and Jamee, who is a Senior at Dutch Fork High. Suzanne loves to travel, cheer on the USC Gamecocks and be Jamee’s “Dance Mom.”
Coordinator for Youth and Communication Ministries
Leigh grew up in Fort Mill, SC. She began sensing a call to youth ministry while in high school, which made her college decision simple. By the end of Leigh’s junior year she knew Presbyterian College (Go Blue Hose!) was where she would spend her college years, studying Christian Education. Prior to marrying Phillip in 2014 and moving back “home,” she served as a youth minister a church in Greenville, SC and Easley, SC. She considers it a privilege to be present with people on their journeys of faith and particularly loves being present with youth. Although a proud Blue Hose, on Saturdays in the Fall you can find her wearing orange and cheering on the Clemson Tigers. Leigh and Phillip enjoy traveling, spending time with friends and attending Winthrop Eagles Basketball and Baseball games.
Children’s Ministry Coordinator
Kim moved to Rock Hill from the Lowcountry of SC in 2012 and quickly found a home at Oakland Baptist Church. She has had the privilege of leading children in ministry for over 25 years! As a student, Kim began leading children in Summer camps and by children’s choirs. She felt God’s call to minister to children in ways that helped them discover and develop their talents to glorify God. Over the past 25 years she has served the children of the various churches as a children’s ministry director, preschool and afterschool program director and teacher, summer camp director, creative arts ministry director and has directed children’s music and arts programs. She has led children’s sports and discipleship programs such as Upward, GA’s/RA’s, AWANA and children’s Sunday school and Children’s Church. She has directed 21 years of VBS! At Oakland, Kim coordinates our various preschool and children’s ministry activities and leads in children’s music and missions activities. Between children’s activities she enjoys singing in the adult choir and playing handbells. She is the wife of Anthony, mother of 6 boys and a proud Clemson Tiger!!
Director of Oakland Day School
Megan Paat has 10+ years of early childhood development, marketing and non-profit leadership. She has witnessed the growth of the area and the school firsthand as a native of Rock Hill and a 1987 graduate of the Day School. This appreciation and her experience fuels her passion for honoring the Day School’s traditions and building upon them for future success. Previously, Megan served as a middle and high school educator in Jacksonville, Florida. She also served as a district executive, camp director and marketing specialist for the Boy Scouts of America, North Florida Council. Throughout her professional career and personal life, God has been her source to empower, educate and encourage children. Megan and her husband, Ed, live in Rock Hill with their four children: Emma Ryan, Ellie, Riv and Shaw.
Missy is from Lancaster, SC. She attended USC Lancaster and York Technical College and comes to OBC with over 20 years of experience as a church Administrative Assistant and 10 years as a church Financial Secretary. Missy and her husband, William have four children, Ashley (Evan), Heather (Brandon), Matthew and Kaylee. Missy enjoys hiking, kayaking and meeting new people.
York County has long been home to Martina. She grew up in York, SC, which is where she currently resides with her husband. She has a passion for rescuing animals in need of a second chance and loving home. Martina and her husband Todd have two children and three grandchildren. While Martina has spent most of her life in York, she did leave for 6 years to serve in the US Navy. Upon return she completed her Associate of Business Degree, in Accounting, at York Technical College. She comes to us with fifteen years experience as a Church Financial Administrator.
