Oakland is involved in many areas of our community and our world to be the hands and feet of Christ. We feel that Jesus calls us to minister to people’s needs, whatever those needs might be. We encourage all Oaklanders to be involved in a hands-on ministry project.

Through a grant from the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, our church is planning on resettling three refugee families. We are working through Lutheran Family Services in Columbia to connect with families that will be resettling in our area. We will find housing, furnish the apartment, help find employment, and help the family begin to adjust to life in the United States. Our first refugee family is from Iraq. |

Palmetto Volunteers in Medicine Clinic opened its doors in October 2008. This clinic was the dream of three Oakland members. They quickly expanded their planning group to include people from all areas of York County. This clinic is the first free medical clinic in York County to serve the uninsured population in our county. Volunteers are needed to staff the clinic - both medical personnel and non-medical personnel. Go to palmettofreeclinic.org for more information. |

Interfaith Hospitality Network provides a comprehensive program for homeless families in York County. Our church provides shelter, meals, and fellowship for the families four times a year. The families are housed in our building during the four weeks. Volunteers are needed to help with the following: prepare meals, spend the night, serve as a morning host, purchase supplies, set-up the Fellowship Hall area in preparation for our guests, read to children, and pray for the ministry and the families served. For more information about this ministry, go to ihnyc.org. |
