We believe that God calls every believer to ministry and that our primary task is to help persons love God and serve others. Through that process we are formed and transformed into the image of Christ based on who God has called us to be. This helps us practice our faith according to God's purpose for our lives. We believe every member is gifted by God and the ministries of our church should reflect the gifts of the body. Therefore, we offer a spiritual gifts class as a central part of our educational curricula. Our desire is for persons to claim the ministry that God has given them.
The Bible presents a listing of the following spiritual gifts: administration, apostleship, craftsmanship, creative communication (music, drama & arts), discernment, encouragement, evangelism, faith, giving, healing, helps, hospitality, intercession, interpretation, knowledge, leadership, mercy, miracles, prophecy, shepherding, teaching, tongues, and wisdom.
Members who complete our spiritual gifts class participate in an individual consultation interview to determine ministry possibilities where their gifts may be employed in Christian service. The following ministries have resulted from our gifts discernment and development process. Each ministry was born from one individual's response to God's calling.
- Barnabas Encourager Ministry
- Children's Worship Ministry
- Computer Technology Ministry
- Extended Session Curriculum
- Facility Tour Ministry
- Gifts/Survey Information Database
- Handyman's Ministry
- Homebound Ministry
- Homefile Handbook
- Hospitality Ministry
- Intercession Ministry
- Lifeline Ministry
- Note Writing Ministry
- School Dental Assistance Ministry
- Spiritual Gifts Class Leadership
- Supply Resource Ministry
- Technology Ministry
- Worship Prayer Ministry
Our gifts class has also led persons to support our existing ministries (InterFaith Hospitality Ministry, RAIN Ministry, committees, Sunday School, etc.).
Gifts discovery without a plan for using one's gifts is useless! Too many churces have offered spiritual gifts classes that provide gifts discernment without attention to followup implementation. The most important task regarding a gifts-based ministry is helping persons find ways to use their gifts in ministry service--within the church and in the church community. Personal consultations are absolutely necessary for success.
Therefore, an on-going, gifts ministry process which offers small-group classes throughout the year is a more effective model than having everyone in the Sunday School or church complete inventories ar the same time. Calendar time for consultations, ministry development, and ministry implementation are vital elements of a successful gifts-based ministry.
